First Raccoon Babies of 2008 Take a Bath
Mother raccoon gives birth in bathtub after trashing house
Some animals seem to be more
discerning than others.
This mother raccoon decided that
the chimney she had been living in for several
weeks was not good enough to give birth to her
young. She proceeded to break through the
chimney damper and into the house. The dedicated
mother, looking for the perfect place, ended up
damaging furniture and linens throughout the
house before settling on the bathtub as the
ideal nursery. But she pulled a towel off the
wall first to make a nice comfy bed.
The three babies were born and
discovered the next day by a neighbour who was
looking after the house while the owners were
away. Mother and babies were removed by Humane
Wildlife Control without incident and the mother
relocated her family to another den site in the
area.
The homeowners might check twice
now before stepping in the bath!
