The brave men and women of Canada's Coast Guard risk their lives every day in order to save human life on the open seas. However, when emergencies involve wildlife, the Canadian Coast Guard turns to the experts at Humane Wildlife Control.
Recently a raccoon was discovered stowing away on the Limnos, a 147-foot Great Lakes rescue vessel stationed out of Burlington, Ontario. During its time at dock, a juvenile raccoon, sick and disoriented, made its way onto the ship and got stuck in a garbage can.
Given the weak and disoriented state of the trapped raccoon, it was removed without trouble and safely transported to Burlington Animal Control for observation. It was suspected that the raccoon may have ingested some mouse poison or another toxic substance while on land as nothing of the sort was found readily available on the ship.
